A member of theScottish National Party (SNP), she was elected as a regional member of theScottish Parliament to represent Central Scotland at the 1999 election.Re-elected in the 2003 election, she served as the SNP's Deputy Spokesman on Communities inside the Scottish Parliament and chaired the Parliament's European and External Relations Committee.
She has contested East Kilbride constituency at the last 3 Scottish Parliament elections where she has been runner-up to
