The Great White Stag (Farthing Wood)

The Great White Stag (Farthing Wood)

The Great White Stag is a fictional character from the animated children's television series The Animals of Farthing Wood based upon the books of the same name by author Colin Dann. He is the only resident of White Deer Park born there to appear in the first season, and therefore the only one to appear in every season of the show.

The Stag is the leader of all the animals in White Deer Park, and the leader of the Deer herd itself. As leader, he is often called upon for advice and help by the other inhabitants of the park, and he is always willing to help them.

eason 1

The Great White Stag is first seen as the Animals Of Farthing Wood finally enter the nature reserve of White Deer Park after their long and dangerous journey. The Stag greets the animals, and expresses his great admiration for their remarkable achievement. He mentions to Toad how extraordinary it is for him to have made the journey not once, but twice, and reminds Fox that despite several of the animals not having made it, those who have have made history.

eason 2

The Stag continues to welcome the Animals of Farthing Wood, this time on behalf of the other residents of the park and tells them to go where they will.

Following a number of initial problems, Fox, Badger, Kestrel and Owl decide to go and see the Stag, who sets aside some land for them where they can keep the Oath. When Badger goes missing and Fox approaches the Stag for help in finding him, the Stag remarks on the concern the animals feel for one another. He also offers hay for the smaller Farthing animals to eat.

He also narrates some of the story.

eason 3

The Great White Stag plays almost no part in this last season. He dies in the first episode after drinking from the stream, a stream that is now poisoned. It is his death that allows the rats to invade the park.
