- Henry Gidney
Sir Henry Albert John Gidney (
9 July 1873 - 1942;Igatpuri ,Maharashtra ,India ). He received his education inBangalore ,Kolkata , andAllahabad . At 16 he joined Calcutta medical college , graduating first class gold medal winner. At 36 years old he was already anFRCS ,DPH ,MRCP ,D.O. , a research scholar and a lecturer inophthalmology at Oxford and a Fellow of the Royal Society. He joined theBritish Indian Army and saw action in China during in theBoxer rebellion and was recognised for his bravery in 1901.By the time the
First World War broke out, he had risen to the level of Lieutenant colonel. After his retirement from the Army, he set up his own private eyehospital inBombay .He was one of the important persons of the
Anglo-Indian community of theBritish Raj . He served as the leader of the Anglo-Indian community for about twenty years.Achievements
#He spent 6 months in
London where he took his competitive examinations for IMS.(30 July 1897 )and in (28 January 1898 } he became a Lieutenant IMS.
#After being a Lieutenant for 3 years he then became acaptain IMS on (28 January 1901 )
#He wasCivil Surgeon inEastern Bengal &Assam .

#He Became anCivil Surgeon ofKohima. Naga Hills (1911)
#ElectedPresident of theBombay branch of theAnglo-Indian Empire League (1918) (founded byCharles Palmer in 1908)
#He was Elected again for different thing - Vice-President of the Central Council of the Empire League. 1919
#In September 1921 - he then became a Member of the Legislative Assembly.
#He formed an Association called the "Anglo-Indian and Domiciled European Association", for India, which in 1937 was separated intoIndia andBurma and represented bothAnglo-Indians andAnglo-Burmese . The Burma section became the "Anglo-Burman Union" following separation.
#He got his title. He was Knighted Sir Henry Gidney in 1931.
#He was Elected President of the All IndiaArts and crafts Society only for one year because of his death.Anglo Indians
