George A. Draper

George A. Draper

George Albert Draper (November 4 1855 February 7 1923) was an American textile industrialist.

Draper was born in Hopedale, Massachusetts. At age 17, he entered the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he studied for two years. He then joined his father's businesses as treasurer at Hopedale Machine Company and later at the Draper Company.

He was also president of the Grafton and Upton Railroad, and of the Harmony Mills; director in the Milford National Bank, First National Bank of Boston, Brogon Cotton Mills Company, of Anderson, North Carolina, and of the Calhoun Cotton Mills of Calhoun, North Carolina.

His brother Ebenezer Sumner Draper was governor. His son Wickliffe Draper inherited his fortune and used it to begin the Pioneer Fund.
