Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering or SCT College of Engineering(SCTCE) , is a state Government sponsored engineering college in Thiruvananthapuram (formerly Trivandrum), Kerala. It is among the leaders of technical education in India. The governing body of the college constituted by the Government of Kerala is chaired by Hon'ble Minister for Transport,Government of Kerala with Higher Education secretary,Finance Secretary,Transport Secretary and Managing Director , KSRTC (Kerala State Road Transport Corporation) as ex-officio members.Two other members( educational experts ) are nominated by the chairman .Established under the University of Kerala in 1995, with AICTE approval, it is a college in India accredited by the National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi, and ISO 9001:2000 Certification . SCTCE is also having the privilege of being one of the seven colleges in the state aided under the world bank funded Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP).

The primary objective of the college is to promote education and research in the field of engineering and to groom young men and women into engineers, in whose hands the future of our nation is assured.Extensive links with research institutes and Industries (VSSC, DRDO,ER&DCI, TECHNOPARK, and IISc) has enabled SCT to maintain the vocational and practical relevance of its courses.

A large number of our students secure high scores in the GATE, GRE, GMAT and CAT examinations. The alumni working in various industrial sectors across the world act as an interface between the college and the industry.

Every year a large number of companies visit the college for campus recruitment and the valiber of students recruited reinforces their trust in the institution. The campus placement is nearing 100% target.Recently, "Outlook" magazine gave it a rank of 98 in its list of Top 100 Engineering Colleges of India. It is also the third and the last engineering college from the state of Kerala to feature in the list, others being the "National Institute of Technology, Calicut" at 28 and the "College of Engineering, Trivandrum" at 47 [ [http://www.cfore.org/studies_engg_med.htm :: C fore - Studies :: ] ] in the Survey conducted by Outlook magazine

Location

It is located at "Pappanamcode" which is only 5Km away from "Trivandrum(Thiruvananthapuram) Central Railway station "and" KSRTC central bus stand"(Thampanoor).Distance from "Trivandrum International airport" is roughly 15 Km .

Courses offered

The college offers undergraduate programs(B.Tech) in

* Computer Science and Engineering [66+(6 lateral entry) seats]
* Mechanical Engineering [66+(6 lateral entry) seats]
* Mechanical Stream Production Engineering [66+(6 lateral entry) seats]
* Mechanical Stream Automobile Engineering [66+(6 lateral entry) seats]
* Biotechnology and Bio Chemical Engineering [66+(6 lateral entry) seats]

Besides this there has been a governing body decision to start an undergraduate program in Electrical and Electronics Engg and graduate programs in 6 various areas.The AICTE sanctioned MTech degree program in Machine Design by Mechanical Engineering Department is yet to start.TEQIP - program of government of India has brought in some significant changes in the quality of training offered by the college with the coming up of a Central Computing facility ,digital library etc..The college regularly conducts community development program related to skill development ,women empowerment etc..Faculty of other engineering colleges in India has also benefitted from such training programs and workshops.An amount to the tune of nearly Rs10crores has already been spent under TEQIP . Admission

The admission procedure and fee structure of SCT College of Engineering is decided by the Government of Kerala.The details are given in the admission prospectus published by Kerala State Entrance Commissioner. [ [http://www.cee-kerala.org/ Welcome to the Official Website of CEE, Kerala ] ] ,and can be found under Government self-financing colleges category.However a certain percentage of seats are reserved for the children of KSRTC employees and another percentage of seats are reserved for the children of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). All admissions except under the NRI quota are based on the Common Entrance Examination conducted by the the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations Government of Kerala.

Faculty

Apart from experienced senior faculty SCT College of Engineering has a large number of young faculty members who have received their education/training from India's premier institutes like IIT,IIM,IIEST IISc and NITs.Usually the recruitment is done to the post of Lecturer.The selection test is conducted by a Government Agency like LBS Centre for Science and Technology.One of the salient features of the College is the presence of a Staff Association named SCT College of Engineering Staff Association(SCESA) which is comprising of all the staff and the faculty.The Staff Association gives adequate care to ensure the smooth functioning of the college through various committees.This ensures a constructive and collective involvement of even non faculty members in all the college activities.

Industry-Institute Interacation

The college has an industry institute partnership cell which conducts training and eduation programs for the benefit of common public and students.It also helps the students to take up the challenge of solving the problems faced by various industries by doing their final year projects with them.Many novel ideas have emerged as a result.In addition to this there is Research and consultancy wing functioning in the college.

tudent Life

Most of the students are found to be day-scholars.The students from far away places reside in college approved hostels in the viscinity of the campus.A number of good accommodation facilities in the city are also utilized by the students.The college has a number of student associations.Each branch has its own association.They organize seminars contests and cultural events in a big way.National Service Scheme unit,film club ,nature club are also functioning in the college.

Centre for Continuing Education

There is a continuing education centre functioning in the college which organizes training programs for engineering college teachers.The centre also conducts other skill oriented training programs for general public.

Flexibility in Programs

The syllabus and academic guidelines issued by University of Kerala are followed. However, the college has a wide range of electives offered for its students, for example, e-commerce, Vehicle design, Aerospace Engineering, Neural Network, Mechatronics, Fuzzy Logic and Optoelectronics. The Mechanical Workshop of SCT College of Engineering is one of the best. Also it is the first Engineering College in Kerala to have a well equipped Mechatronics Lab after the National Institute of Technology Calicut.
