The 5th Parachute Brigade was a war-formed brigade of the British Army during the Second World War.

History

The 5th Para Brigade was converted from the 72nd Infantry Brigade on 1 June 1943. It was attached to the newly formed 6th Airborne Division.

On 23 March 1945 it was involved in a second airborne drop (Operation Varsity) over the Rhine and into Germany.

On 20 July 1945 the 5th Airborne Brigade was flown to India and, after the end of hostilities, on to Singapore and Malaya where it aided in the disarming of Japanese forces.
