Sergei Nikitich Khrushchev (In Russian: Серrей Никитич Хрущёв), son of former
Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev , now resides in theUnited States where he is a Senior Fellow at theWatson Institute for International Studies atBrown University inProvidence, Rhode Island .Dr. Khrushchev holds several advanced engineering degrees. From the Ukrainian Academy of Science, he earned his Soviet doctoral degree, and he earned a Ph.D. from the Moscow Technical University. In addition, he earned an M.A. degree with distinction from the Moscow Electric Power Institute. He also holds an "occasional" professorship at the
Naval War College inNewport, Rhode Island , meaning he is not a full-time professor (though he was for some time), but does teach there fairly often.Prior to emigrating from the
Soviet Union , Dr. Khrushchev worked in various high-levelengineering positions. From 1968 to 1991, he served at theControl Computer Institute inMoscow , where he rose fromsection head to first deputy director in charge ofresearch . From the years 1958 to 1968, Dr. Khrushchev worked as anengineer , then later as a deputysection head in charge ofguidance systems formissile andspace design . In thiscapacity , he worked oncruise missiles forsubmarine craft,military and researchspacecraft ,moon vehicles , and the "Proton"space booster .He often speaks to American
audiences to share his memories of the "other" side of theCold War .Family
On
July 12 1999 , he and his wife, Valentina, becamenaturalized citizen s of the United States. Sergei's son, Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev, by a prior marriage, a Russian journalist, died onFebruary 22 2007 , aged 47, from a stroke.Bibliography
