- Primera División Peruana 2004
The 2004 season of the
Primera División Peruana , the top category ofPeru vianfootball (soccer) , was played by 14 teams. The national champion wasAlianza Lima .The national championship was divided into two half-year tournaments, the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura. Each was played on a home-and-away round-robin basis. The winners of each would play for the national title in a playoff, but a team had to finish in the top 6 in both tournaments to earn the right to play the final. If the same club had won both tournaments, it would have won the national championship automatically.
Following-season
Copa Libertadores berths went to each half-year tournament winner, and the best of the other teams in the aggregate table. The next best two teams earned berths for theCopa Sudamericana . The Grau-Estudiantes team [Estudiantes de Medicina from Ica were broke, with Atlético Grau fromPiura thus taking its place instead, but playing under a joint name.] withdrew from the tournament, which automatically relegated them. The two teams with the worst points-per-match average over the 2003 and 2004 seasons were to be relegated, but given Grau-Estudiantes' automatic relegation, only the single other team with the worst average was relegated. Results
