Members of this genus are distinguished from other members of this family by the dull coloration (tending towards whites, beiges, and dull oranges or yellows) of theirfruiting bodies and microscopically by their divergent lamellar trama.The majority of species initially described as members of "Hygrophorus" have been transferred to the newer genus "
