Höllviken is a town in
Vellinge Municipality inSkåne County in southernmostSweden , situated close to bothMalmö and theOresund Bridge which connectsSweden andDenmark . As such, the community functions as asuburb to bothCopenhagen andMalmö . The population is 10,014 (2005).The town is a popular summer vacation spot for northern Europeans, who are attracted to its sand beaches and the to the historical sites which date back to the time of the
Vikings . The peninsula on which it is situated is unique because it is surrounded by two different seas. To the west is theÖresund Strait and to the east is theBaltic Sea . It is mainly vegetated bypine trees that were planted in the 1800s to prevent the sand from consuming the town.Prior to the 1960s, the peninsula remained mainly populated by wealthy businessmen from the
Malmö region during the summers. Recently, however, it has begun to grow as a commuter town.The town has been very successful in indoors gymnastic and its team "Kämpinge GF" has on numerous occasions won the Swedish Championship in
team gymnastics . The club also has produced world-class double-Dutch teams, who have won the World Championship inDouble-Dutch .The town has a football team
Höllvikens GIF , playing in the third division inSweden . Although not a well known side, they play at Höllviken IP Stadium which holds 1900 people.The town has brought up a number of good tennis players. The most famous one,
Mikael Pernfors , went to the final in theFrench Open at Roland Garros in 1986.
