Jacky D. Cupit (born February 1, 1938) is an American
professional golfer who has played on both thePGA Tour and theSenior PGA Tour (now known as theChampions Tour ).Cupit was born and raised in
Longview, Texas in thepiney woods ofeast Texas . His older brother, Buster, was a professional golfer who played mainly in Texas and Oklahoma. Cupit attended theUniversity of Houston and was a member of thegolf team, earning All-American honors in 1959 and 1960. He turned pro and joined thePGA Tour in 1961.Cupit played on the PGA Tour from 1961–1973 and had 4 victories during that phase of his career. His first win came at the 1961
Canadian Open . He won the PGA's "Rookie of the Year" award in 1961. His last win came in 1966 at the Cajun Classic. Cupit's best finish in a major was runner-up at the 1963 U.S. Open, when he andArnold Palmer lost toJulius Boros in a three-way playoff.After reaching the age of 50 in 1988, Cupit played part-time on the Senior PGA Tour. He currently works as a club pro in east Texas.
