John White (
June 8 1811 –May 3 1897 ) was anOntario lumber merchant and political figure. He represented Halton in theCanadian House of Commons as a Liberal member from 1867 to 1874.Born in
Omagh ,County Tyrone ,Ireland , in 1811, White came to Canada with his family in 1823 and was educated inToronto . He served on the council for the Gore District and then on the council for Halton County. White was elected to theLegislative Assembly of Ontario for Halton in 1851 then again in 1858 and served until Confederation. White was known as a horse breeder, and several horses owned by White and his brother James won theQueen's Plate , including the first running of this event. He also served as captain in the local militia.External links
