Florida Friebus

Florida Friebus (October 10 1909, Auburndale, MassachusettsMay 27 1988, Laguna Niguel, California) was an American writer and actress of stage and television.

She was most famous for playing Winifred "Winnie" Gillis, the sympathetic mother of Dobie Gillis on the CBS sitcom "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis", and Mrs. Lillian Bakerman, the cheerful patient who was usually seen knitting while she interacted with other members of Dr. Robert Hartley's therapy group on "The Bob Newhart Show".

The daughter of actor Theodore Friebus, Friebus reflected an aura of refinement and discretion, even in despair.

Throughout her career she appeared on television in such programs as "The Ford Theatre Hour", "Perry Mason", "Bachelor Father", "Father Knows Best", "Peyton Place", "My Mother the Car", "Ben Casey", "Ironside", "Sanford and Son", "The Doris Day Show", "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", "Gunsmoke", "Room 222", "The Partridge Family", "Chico and the Man", "Barnaby Jones", "Rhoda", and "Alice".

Friebus died of cancer at age 78. She was personally and professionally involved with stage actress Eva Le Gallienne Fact|date=February 2007, and they collaborated on a revival of "Alice in Wonderland".
