Galaxy Facts

*Galaxy was one of the powerhouse sides in the first season of the new Super League.

*Up until 2002 Galaxy was formerly known as West Torrens Birkalla (Birks). The club was founded by a Mr J Taylor in 1933 under the name Birkalla Rovers and in 1979 merged with West Torrens (founded in 1923) to form West Torrens Birkalla, a name they played under until the end of the 2001 season when the name was changed to Adelaide Galaxy.

* At the beginning of the 2006 season Galaxy reverted back to its original team colours, yellow and black.

* Birkalla produced 4 Australian internationals and 19 State representatives.

The last trophy West Torrens Birkalla won in the juniors is the Under 15 Cs in 2005 coached by Leigh Matthews and assisted by Dustie McGregor. This pairing led to the club encouraging a coach and assistant coach partnership for all of its junior teams. The trophy ended an unparalleled duration of the club not achieving a success in the junior competitions in any level.

Fortunately the club has strong foundations in place, and from its juniors to under 14s teams will be strongly competing in each competition and aiming for the development of each individual player as well as success.

2006 was a year which the juniors had a successful year, but a year in which the under 15 team brought shame to the club by having an all in fight with a rival club Playford Patriots. The club doesn't condone what happened and has moved on, hoping that these incidents do not occur in the foreseeable future.

However the under 15 team was also the most successful junior team of 2006 reaching the semi finals of the Kanga cup in canberra, runner up in the JPL cup and finishing third in the league.
