Hartland, New Brunswick Hagerman, who received a degree fromMount Allison University specializing in voice and organ, began her career in music inCharlottetown and Summerside, the former of which is her current place of residence. She had a very distinguished performance career on the island as a vocal soloist with the P.E.I. Symphony Orchestra. She was also the conductor of the Summerside Community Choir for seventeen years, which performed throughout theMaritimes and even atCarnegie Hall under her leadership.She is an active volunteer as well as a great participant in Canada's music domain. She has volunteered with the
Federation of Canadian Music Festivals and theP.E.I. Music Festival Association , and she has also helped seniors and children with special needs.She is married to Nelson Hagerman, and together they have two children and two grandchildren. Hagerman's mother also resides in Summerside.
Her appointment to represent Queen Elizabeth II on Prince Edward Island as Lieutenant-Governor was confirmed by the office of Canadian Prime Minister
Stephen Harper on July 12, 2006. Hagerman was installed as Lieutenant-Governor on July 31, 2006. Her duties as Lieutenant Governor were briefly performed byJohn A.
