Steven Strong

"Benoît Brisefer" (French for "Benedict Ironbreaker") is a Belgian comic created in 1960 by the Belgian comic book artist Peyo (best known for the Smurfs) about a little boy with superhuman strength. Since Peyo's death it has been continued by other designers and writers. Parts of the series have been published in a number of languages around the world.

In 1967, the British comic "Giggle" published an early adventure under the name "Tammy Tuff" [http://www.comicsuk.co.uk/images/FullStrip/Giggle/Giggle_004.jpg] . Other English-language publications have used the name "Steven Strong".

Steven Strong is a little boy, who always wears a beret, a blue scarf, and a red shirt, and who has exceptional strength, except when he catches a cold, upon which he becomes normal. Feats of his super-strength include running at high speeds, jumping at exceptional heights and lengths, and an exceptionally strong breath.

Despite his strength, however, he is generally a very polite and helpful person who is willing to help others in need; in "Le cirque Bodoni", for instance, he scratches together his meager savings to assist the nearly bankrupted circus manager. He hates crime and injustice, and has an intense dislike for firearms, especially automatic weapons.

Peyo handed over the illustration of the series relatively early to concentrate on the more successful series "The Smurfs". The first seven adventures appeared in "Spirou", but the series stopped when the success of the Smurfs prevented Peyo from working on his other series. After his death in 1992, it has been restarted by Pascal Garray and Thierry Culliford, Peyo's son.
