May 17 ,1791 -September 30 ,1849 ) was an American Whigpolitician .Jennison was born in
Shoreham, Vermont to Levi Jennison and Ruth Hemenway. He married Marilla Hanks Bush onMay 3 ,1814 and they had five children; Lurana Sandford, Levi, Ruth, Sara Cary and Laura Louisa. He was a town representative from 1829 to 1835; associate county judge for six years; a member of the State council forthree years; lieutenant governor of Vermont from 1835 to 1836. In the second year of his lieutenant governorship (1836) no governor was elected, so he became acting governor. In 1836 he was elected governor of Vermont by popular vote. He held this office from 1835 to 1841. He declined reelection in 1840 and moved to the office of judge of probate in 1841. After protracted sickness and suffering, he died onSeptember 30 ,1849 inShoreham, Vermont . He is buried in Jenison Cemetery,Shoreham, Vermont .ources
