Ennis Whatley (born
August 11 ,1962 inBirmingham, Alabama ) is an American former professionalbasketball player who was selected by the Kansas City Kings in the 1st round (13th overall) of the1983 NBA Draft . He attended Phillips High School in Birmingham, Alabama. He followed that with two seasons at theUniversity of Alabama before declaring for the NBA Draft in 1983. While at Alabama, Whatley became a starter instantly as a freshman. He led the Crimson Tide to the SEC Tournament Championship in his freshman year in 1982 and a Sweet 16 appearance in the 1982 NCAA Tournament, where they lost to eventual championNorth Carolina . In his sophomore season, Whatley led the Tide to nationally-televised regular season victories over national powers Georgetown, Kentucky, and UCLA, and another NCAA appearance. Whatley played in 10NBA seasons. He played for theChicago Bulls ,Cleveland Cavaliers , Washington Bullets,San Antonio Spurs ,Atlanta Hawks ,Los Angeles Clippers andPortland Trail Blazers . During the 1997-98 season, Whatley played forZalgiris Kaunas and won the European Cup.Whatley's best year as a professional came during the 1986-87 season as a Bullet, appearing in 73 games and averaged 8.5 points per game (ppg). In 10 NBA seasons, Whatley played in a total of 385 games and scored 2,150 points, thus averaging 5.6 ppg.
