text = Löjtnant (from French lieu meaning place/position combined with tenant meaning holding. Lieu + tenant means a person holding a position in the absence of a superior. The superior being a kapten) is a Swedish and Finnish rank. In Sweden, it is the third lowest Swedish professional military rank, immediately above and just below Kapten. Holder of the rank typically serve as instructors of conscripts. Some may take up roles such as deputy platoon commanders during international missions or under the Nordic Battle Group.

Obtaining the rank in Sweden

Two years as Fänrik. It is also attainable by active duty officers, reserve officers and by conscript officers (via voluntary training).

Obtaining the rank in Finland

One year of conscitp trainng as reserve officer candidate and 3 years of professional officers course at Finnish National Defence University.

Holder of the rank Löjtnant were elevated to Kapten andholders of the following ranks were elevated to Löjtnant
* Fänrik
* Fanjunkare (with 3-7 years of servcie)
* Sergeant (with 3-7 years of servcie)
