- Char Bagh
-
Char Bagh is an area within Laghman Province, Afghanistan and is observable from the Jalalabad-Kabul Road. According to some sources, when Alexander the Great entered the region, he built a town between Char Bagh and Mandrawar after the Greek god of victory.[1]
Char Bagh is also a style of garden used in the tomb construction of the Mughal emperors in the Asian Sub-Continent. The garden is divided into four sections by two intersecting streams and in many cases (the Taj Mahal being an exception) the Tomb is placed directly in the center. This four panel configuration is intended to represent paradise. The word Char is Persian for four and the word Bagh is Persian for the word garden
