- Fukuoka-Kitakyūshū
is one name given to the area of land that is centered on the cities of Fukuoka and Kitakyushu in
Fukuoka prefecture ,Japan . Usually these cities are referred to separately,but since they are close, their economic areas sometimes overlap. Transportation links tend to overlap in the region as well.The whole region consists of 3 metropolitan regions:
* Fukuoka-
Kurume -Saga withinGreater Fukuoka (2.7 million)*
Kitakyushu -Shimonoseki (Greater Kitakyushu), often called the Kanmon area after theKanmon Straits , with around 1.2-2.3 million. Estimates vary depending on definition.* Metropolitan
Iizuka area which some regard as asuburb of both Fukuoka or Kitakyushu with (220,000) people.with sometimes:
* MetropolitanShimonoseki (下関都市圏) may be considered a separate or integral part of Greater Kitakyushu/Kanmon (700,000), includingUbe, Yamaguchi City.Ōita, Sasebo,
Kumamoto are never included in any above estimates, despite their relative proximity to Fukuoka and Kitakyushu.
