Space Shuttle program to send theSpace Shuttle Columbia to retrieve theHubble Space Telescope from orbit and bring it back to Earth.Fact|date=January 2007 The mission was tentatively scheduled for November2009 .After the
Space Shuttle Columbia disaster , this mission, along with others, was cancelled, andNASA is unlikely to attempt to recover the Hubble with a shuttle.NASA must find another way to bring the telescope safely back to Earth or, more likely, find a way to control its re-entry so that it breaks up safely. However, plans have been made now for an additional shuttle flight,STS-125 , to service the Hubble Space Telescope one final time.
