Slopestyle is a form of
freestyle snowboarding and skiing competition. Slopestyle is also emerging as a niche in the world of mountain biking with new competitions emerging that seek ways to judge the new breed of freeriders. In slopestyle, the rider or skier is free to choose his or her own route through a course consisting of various terrain features, such as bumps, rails, and jumps. Judges determine the winner based on the degree of difficulty and execution of each trick. While slopestyle is one of the most popular events at the WinterX Games , it has never been in theWinter Olympics . A few notable slopestyle athletes areShaun White ,Janna Meyen ,Tara Dakides ,Danny Kass , Travis Rice, Eddie Wall, Chad Otterstrom,Simon Dumont ,Tanner Hall , Jon Olsson,Andreas Wiig . Unlike the Superpipe event, slopestyle is more weather dependent. In the 2006 Winter X Games, the men's ski slopestyle event was changed into a Big Air event due to poor conditions.Slopestyle is also a half hour, weekly broadcast TV series for skiers, boarders and mountain enthusiasts. Created in 1999 as a two episode special, the series has since gained popularity and has aired in the US, Canada and Australia.
