Andy KyteCave In is an alternative rock/metalcore band that formed in 1995, in
Methuen, Massachusetts .Biography
Cave In was born as the brain child of
Jay Frechette andSteve Brodsky back in early 1995. With the first line up set,Jay Frechette on vocals,Steve Brodsky on guitar & vocals,Adam McGrath on 2nd guitar,JR Connors on drums and Justin Matthes on bass. They would soon release a demo and a handful of split 7" releases with bands like Gambit, Piebald and Early Grace. Finally in 96-97 Cave In would release their very own S/T 7" on Hydra Head. Now with their own 7" under their belt, the band would embark on its very first three week East Coast tour. That first tour would soon be cut a week short due to Jay Frechette's prior obligations to join and tour with bostons ownTen Yard Fight 1997 Back On Track tour playing guitar. Ater Jay returned home from a month on tour with Ten Yard Fight it was a mutual decision on both sides for Jay to leaveCave In and play guitar for TYF full time. This would be the time when replacement singer for Jay, Dave Scrod would step in for a short lived time. In 1998 most songs from Cave In's earlier 7" releases and recording were compiled together for the band's first long-form record forHydra Head Records , "Beyond Hypothermia ".Two weeks before the band was to record their second full-length, Dave left the band forcing guitarist Steven Brodsky to perform vocals for the release. The second album,"
Until Your Heart Stops " was Brodsky's first as lead vocalist. The album's release was followed by extensive touring. In 2000, the band released "Jupiter". "Jupiter" received a good deal of press. The band was featured in
Spin Magazine 's "Sound Advice" section, where their new sound was described as "emo-metalRadiohead ." "Jupiter" also caught the attention of major labels, who began courting the band after its release. The band released a final six-song EP forHydra Head entitled "Tides of Tomorrow ", with an even further-expanded melodic approach, before moving on toRCA Records .In 2003 the band released "Antenna", their debut for
RCA . "Antenna" had more success than previous albums and Cave In was chosen to play the second stage on the 2003Lollapalooza tour. After Lollapalooza, Cave In toured Europe in support of theFoo Fighters andMuse . The band cut ties withRCA Records ' shortly after.Cave In returned to
Hydra Head Records and releasedPerfect Pitch Black onSeptember 13 ,2005 .John-Robert has since departed from Cave In and has been replaced by drummer
Ben Koller , who will balance drumming duties in Cave In as well as his primary band, Converge. According to postings on [http://www.hydrahead.com Hydra Head Records] website news, Adam McGrath is listed as ex-Cave In guitarist in his new band Clouds. As of November 2006, Cave In is officially on hiatus.
