Henry Wise Wood is regarded as an influential individual in Canadian agricultural and farming history.
The school prides itself as "the home of scholars, artists, and champions." The school motto is "Finis Coronat Opus," Latin for "The End Crowns the Work."
Academically, the school offers the International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) and the Gifted and Talented Education Program (GATE), in addition to the full range of academic programs standard to the province.
Henry Wise Wood Senior High School is also noted as a one of the top football programs in Alberta. In 2007 they were ranked fifth in the province for all division one teams, behind provincial champions St. Francis Browns.
Led by quarterback Cody Lind, Linebacker Jordan Colebrook, Wide Receiver Ian MacDougall and Safety David Slatcher, the team went 4-2 in the 2007 regular season. The Henry Wise Wood Warriors played in the division one city final at McMahon stadium (home of the Calgary Stampeders) but were defeated 30 to 14 by the St. Francis Browns.
