(1990)"Baby I'm Yours" is the name of a song written by Van McCoy. It was originally released by Barbara Lewis in 1965 and has been remade by many artists since then.

Lyrics

The lyrics, similar to songs like "The Twelfth of Never," are a profession of love, explaining that the singer will always be "yours".

#Baby I'm YoursThis was Lewis' first hit single and biggest hit. Along with this song, she wrote all the material for her debut album of the same name; during the early sixties, it was somewhat rare.

Recording history

In 1965, Barbara Lewis released "Baby I'm Yours" as a single. It managed to peak the Pop Singles chart (now Hot 100) at number eleven. Her single also became a top ten hit on the Black Singles chart (now known as Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs) peaking at number five. Lewis's version is often given airplay on oldies radio stations.

That same year, British duo Peter & Gordon covered the song for the UK market. Their version became a top twenty hit on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number nineteen.

In 1966, Cilla Black recorded the song and included her version on the album "Cilla Sings a Rainbow"; however, the song was not released as a single. Also in 1966, it was recorded as an album cut for Jack Jones' "For The In Crowd".

In 1971, Jody Miller remade the song and released it as a single. Her version peaked at number ninety-one on the "Billboard" Hot 100, but managed to peak at number five on the Country Singles chart.

In 1976, Linda Lewis had a top forty hit in the United Kingdom with her version. It peaked at number thirty-three.

In 1978, Debby Boone released her version. It was listed on the Hot 100 as a tag-along b-side with her hit "God Knows." The doubled sided single managed to peak at number seventy-four, however both songs charted separately on the Adult Contemporary and Country singles charts. While peaking at a low number on the Hot 100, Boone's version of "Baby I'm Yours" peaked at number eighteen on the Adult Contemporary chart and number thirty-three on the Country Singles chart.

In 1990, Cher released her version as the first European single release from the soundtrack to the movie "Mermaids." The song only peaked in the UK singles chart at number eighty-nine before being the B-side to The Shoop Shoop Song.

Most recently in 2006, Arctic Monkeys released a cover of the song in a collaborative effort with The 747s as a B-side on their single, "Leave Before the Lights Come On" which reached number four on the UK Singles Chart.

Other artists who have recorded this song include Petula Clark, The Paramounts, Billy Preston, Maureen McGovern, and Tanya Tucker, whose version made Billboard's country chart in 1983.
