Storm Large (born Susan Storm Large, June 25, 1969) is a singer best known as a contestant on the CBS reality television show . Although she was eliminated on September 6, 2006 (in the last show before the season finale), host Dave Navarro recorded a guitar track on her single "Ladylike". Though originally slated to open for the band Rock Star Supernova on tour in January 2007, Large and fellow contestant Magni Ásgeirsson were dropped from the billing due to financial reasons.cite news|url=http://www.tmz.com/2006/10/11/more-problems-for-rockstar-supernova/|publisher=TMZ.com

Personal background

Large was born and raised in rural Southborough, Massachusetts. Since around age five, Large has been singing and writing songs, and, by age 14, she had a mohawk.

She graduated from St. Mark's School, a prestigious private school whose alumni include Prince Hashim of Jordan, in 1987. Her father Henry is a history and religion teacher there, as well as the football team coach.

After high school, she attended the Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, where she earned an associates degree in 1989. Soon after, she moved to San Francisco to pursue music instead of acting. She formed the bands FlowerSF, Storm and her Dirty Mouth, and Storm, Inc.. Storm, Inc. featured Shaunna Hall of 4 Non Blondes and P-Funk fame as a rhythm guitarist. Shaunna was featured on "The Calm Years" LP and toured with the band for a few months after the album's release. Other projects eventually pulled Shaunna away from the band. Storm sometimes performed as the duo Storm and Michael or Storm and Friends. In 2002, she left San Francisco to attend the Western Culinary Institute in Portland, where she was convinced by friends to sing again. Large currently lives in Portland, Oregon where she leads her band "Storm and the Balls".

She is openly bisexual, citation |title=Storm Goes Large |url=http://www.wweek.com/editorial/3346/9624/ |first=Byron |last=Beck |date=2007-09-27 |periodical=Willamette Week |accessdate=2007-10-08 ] a label she dislikes and instead calls herself "sexually omnivorous,"Fact|date=September 2007 and has spoken about her early sexual activity and drug use."I started having sex before the eighth grade, and I was addicted to heroin by the age of 21".

She currently is in a long-term relationship with David Loprinzi, II (AKA Davey Nipples) of the bands Everclear (c.1998-c.2001) and Sweaty Nipples (c.1987-199?). He is also the bassist of The Balls.

She was once a barista at the coffee shop "Ground Zero" in the Lower Haight district of San Francisco.

Storm grew up going to her father's work (all boys school) She has never been afraid to wrestle anyone to the ground.

Career

The Balls

The Balls, also known as Storm and the Balls, originally Storm and the Hellfire Antisocial Club, was formed in May/June 2002 after Large moved to Portland from San Francisco. The Balls have drawn what local media call a "cult-like" following in clubs, primarily Wednesday nights at Dante's, where they perform "lounge-core, mash-up" renditions of artists ranging from ABBA, Billy Idol, Motörhead and Olivia Newton-John as well as their own compositions. Large worked part-time as a bartender at Dante's when not touring with The Balls.

The pianist of The Balls, James Beaton, was also a touring musician for Everclear from 1998 to 2001. Drummer Brian Parnell was formerly in the band Motherload.

Drumattica

During live shows, Storm has filled in for Jen Folker on vocals alongside Rob Wynia (of Floater) with Drumattica out of Portland.

an Francisco

Before moving to Portland, she performed in the San Francisco Bay Area with her former bands (in order from most-recent back), Storm & Michael (billed as "Storm and Friends" on at least one occasion at Sweetwater Saloon in Mill Valley, CA), Storm Inc., Storm and Her Dirty Mouth, and FlowerSF. During that time, she tended bar at Noe Valley institution the Rat and Raven, which featured packed Sunday night showings of The Simpsons. She has appeared with her band Storm Inc. on the [http://www.tmctv.com "Locals Only"] television show produced by TMC. Large is known for her vocal range, stage presence, and attitude when performing.

Theatre

In the Fall of 2007, Storm decided to take a break from music and touring (she has estimated that for the previous 14 months she had been constantly working), and from September 24 to November 11 she is playing Sally Bowles in Portland Center Stage's production of the musical "Cabaret".

Television appearances

Storm Large appeared as a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on September 11, 2006. She discussed her childhood (and her unique name) with Ellen and then performed Queen's We Are the Champions with Paul Mirkovich from the House Band accompanying her on the piano.

On September 26, 2006, Storm sang a rendition of the American national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, on the season 2 finale of ESPN reality television show The Contender. Before her performance, the show's announcer noted, "Storm is fulfilling one of her lifelong dreams to perform the national anthem at an international sporting event."

She recently performed the national anthem again on November 4, 2006 at the Portland Trail Blazers opening home game of their 2006-2007 NBA season. The broadcast appeared on Fox Sports Northwest, the Seattle and Portland affiliate of Fox Sports Net.
