Providence, Rhode Island ,USA houses over 1000 animals representing 139 species, includingbald eagle s,snow leopard s,Asian black bears ,giraffe s, andAfrican elephant s, in naturalistic settings. It is the nation's third oldest zoo. The Park and Zoo are named after the founder ofProvidence , Roger Williams, the 17th-century proponent of religious tolerance.The zoo is expanding and under renovations as of 2008. These expansions include making the world class polar bear exhibit nine times larger than before. Other expansions include the 'Hidden Zoo' veterinary hospital and clinic, and a children's adventure trail.
Admission is $12 for adults $6 for children 3-12 kids 3 and under are free. Zoo hours are 9-5 from April 7th till October 1st. 9-4 from October 1st through April 7thThe zoo is only closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.The zoo is free to the public on New years Day. The first Saturday of every month is free for Providence RI residents.
