- Rodley, West Yorkshire
Rodley is a
village on the outskirts of westLeeds ,West Yorkshire ,England with a strong history dating back to Georgian times. The
Leeds and Liverpool Canal passes through Rodley, running parallel with Rodley Town Street. Many of the stone-built industrial buildings and mills that once lined the banks of the canal have been demolished and replaced with modern apartments and houses, as Rodley develops as a commuter village equidistant between Leeds and Bradford. Some mills and industrial buildings survive, though many are in a desperate state of disrepair having lost their roofs and windows.
Rodley is also the home of Rowley Workshop: makers of Dusty Bin,
Wizbit and Dusty the Dawg.Previous to this Rodley was the place where Thomas Smith's Steam Crane Works was established in 1820, and were world famous for cranes and lifting gear by 1888 [http://www.leeds.gov.uk/discover/discovery.asp?page=2003219_348858059&topic=200335_73055447&subsection=2003724_975521267&subsubsection=2003724_825145901] .
