Wilson Benesch is a manufacturer of high end audio loudspeakers and turntables for domestic and professional use, based in Sheffield, England. The company manufactures every component under one roof. The company was founded in 1989 and is run by Christina Milnes, with design driven by Craig Milnes.

It exploits the very latest 3D software to instruct advanced CNC machines. The company also takes raw carbon fibre and resin systems and realises complex structures that are ideally suited to the function this being Low mass, High stiffness, self-damping structures.

Carbon fibre composites

Wilson Benesch pioneered the use of advanced composite structures in many of its designs. and quickly grew out of the success of its innovative solutions in turntable and tonearm designs that rejected the "benefits" of the compact disc. In 1995 the company launched the world's first curved floor standing loudspeaker made from carbon composite at the Frankfurt High End Show. This key point in loudspeaker design heralded a sea change in all loudspeaker designs that were commonly rectilinear wood or polymer based constructions. The A.C.T. One has been superseded by The A.C.T. which is constructed from carbon composite and several alloys to achieve the world's stiffest cabinet construction.

Government funding

The company is the only British audio company to win substantial funding from government in order to pursue its innovative research and development programs. This funding has seen the creation of unique and highly effective new solutions especially in the generation of low frequency sound.

Isobaric speakers

The company has always rejected the ubiquitous large drive unit solution accepted by all other loudspeaker designs to date. In pursuit of accuracy the Tactic drive unit was developed that would enable the isobaric Tactic. This innovative solution provides a level of integration and phase accuracy that was previously impossible with conventional technologies. It made possible several radical products including the Bishop, Discovery and Chimera. Critics in various parts of the world have used all of these designs as Reference systems.

More recently the company released the Torus system following a three-year feasibility and development program. It is a natural development of the Tactic isobaric design that sees endorses the elimination of large driver based design solutions but this time in what is commonly known as the subwoofer. Experts in loudspeaker design have hailed the Infrasonic Generator as “revolutionary”. The unique concept sees a reciprocal drive of a super stiff diaphragm (capable of supporting 100,000 times its own mass) formed from three dimensionally woven carbon fibre.
