Gerardo García León, Gerardo (born 7 December 1974 in Seville, Andalusia), is a Spanish football player who currently plays for Real Sociedad, as a defender. He is a player of wide range, operating from the right flank.

Football career

An unsuccessful Real Madrid graduate (never appeared for the first team), Gerardo started playing professionally in "Segunda División", with CD Leganés, UE Lleida and CD Badajoz. In 1998-99, he debuted in "La Liga", playing 34 matches for Villarreal CF and being relegated at the season's end.

Purchased by Valencia CF, he appeared scarcely for the "Che" during the season, but was a starter in the 2000 Champions League final loss to Real Madrid. He spent 2000-01 on loan to CA Osasuna.

Gerardo had his most successfully period at Málaga CF, playing five seasons for an Andalusia side that had 4 consecutive mid-table positions, also helping it win the 2002 Intertoto Cup. In 2005-06, Málaga finished last, with Gerardo netting twice (in two 1-2 defeats).

In 2006-07, he joined Real Sociedad, who would also be relegated at the season's end.

Personal

Gerardo has two brothers, also professional footballers: Moisés García (Gimnàstic de Tarragona) and Edu García (CD Logroñes).
