"XX" is the seventeenth episode in the of the popular American crime drama "", set in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Plot summary

Catherine, Sara and Nick start by investigating the body of a female prison inmate nicknamed "Baby Girl" found tied to the underside of a bus. Their first thought is that she died while attempting to escape from the jail. During the autopsy, it is revealed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and that the wounds from the bus ride were postmortem.

Toward the back of the bus, remnants of seminal fluid are found. During the investigation, they also learn that Baby Girl was pregnant. From there, they talk to the inmate's previous cell partner Juanita and learn she was in love with her cell mate, and Sara notices that each woman had part of a broken-heart tattoo. When the DNA comes back on the seminal fluid, the CSIs discover that it belonged to the bus driver and that he was the father of the victim's child.

In the end, Nick and Sara realize that the damage done to the victim's skull was probably caused by a padlock-shaped object. Further investigation shows that Juanita had blood on her sock, suggesting that she killed the victim with what Catherine calls "a lock in a sock". Juanita had discovered Baby Girl's pregnancy, and thought that she had transferred out of their cell as a rejection, and so she killed her out of anger and revenge. The inmate then tied her to the bottom of the bus. Catherine sadly tells Juanita that Baby Girl did not ask for a transfer, but was moved out by the warden after she smuggled in a heart-shaped necklace to give to the woman she loved: Juanita.

Meanwhile, Grissom and Warrick investigate the brutal stabbing of a man in his special needs brother's apartment. It turns out to be a mock murder that was actually a suicide. The 'victim' had attempted the Martingale gambling strategy and failed. In the process he lost thousands of dollars that he had borrowed, causing him to take out a life insurance policy and fake his murder so that his younger brother Zero (T.R. Knight) would be taken care of. Warrick is nearly in tears as he tells Zero that his brother is dead and his trusted guardian is going to jail for allowing the brother's gambling scheme, and sees the young man is left alone in the world.
