Glenshee

Glenshee

Glenshee ( _gd. Gleann Sìdh) is a glen in eastern Perth and Kinross, Scotland through which flows the Shee Water. The Spittal of Glenshee marks the head of the glen in the north. Settlements in the glen include Finegand, Dalnaglar, Lair, Cray, Mountblair, Blacklunans and Dalrulzian. Glenshee opens out into the Forest of Alyth down into the Strathmore valley.

Glenshee Ski Centre is located on either side of the Cairnwell Pass five miles north of the Spittal of Glenshee.

Glenshee has long been a haven for skiers and snowboarders but with recent warm winters the number of skiable days has been severely reduced. However, plans are afoot to expand into mountain biking with the developers/planners agreeing, in principle, to the building of a new chairlift and gondola system which will then attempt to poach the world mountain bike championships, currently held at Nevis Range ski centre.

The new mountain bike park will consist of a new gondola system (allowing bikers to ride to the top with their bike on board), over 15 new tracks of different lengths and difficulty varying from an easy 8 mile 'blue' run to an expert 'double black' which will be 27 miles long and there will also be an off-road track (similar to a BMX track but much bigger) a new 'tricked out freestyle park and a brand new purpose built bike shop and rental for day trippers who would like to try the sport, restaurant and cafe and a new eco friendly 150 bedroom hotel and finally,a new bike school where parties can hire a bike guide to show them around the resort.

The new mountain bike park will be one of the biggest in Europe with ambitious plans to expand across the existing ski area and with the funds in place and the developers ready to start building, the future looks extremely bright for Glenshee Mountain Resort.
