York (group)

York (group)

York are German dance music, record producer, and DJ brothers Torsten and Jorg Stenzel. Both brothers were involved heavily in music in their youths and Torsten had some chart success in his home country and the low countries. In 1998 the brothers teamed up to form York.

York released three singles, the first of which, "The Awakening", reached #11 in the UK Singles Chart in October 1999. With 250,000 copies shifted it is one of the biggest selling records in the UK not to make the Top 10! Their second single "On The Beach/Reachers of Civilisation" (the former, sampling Chris Rea's On The Beach) was their biggest hit, making #4 in June 2000 and selling 200,000 copies. The next chart entry "Farewell To The Moon" crept into the Top 40 at #37 in November later that year. Their last UK hit single was "Fields Of Love" which featured club legend ATB. It reached #16 in January 2001.York joined their new label Offshore Music (based in Switzerland) in 2004 with their club hit singles "Iceflowers" (playlisted by Judge Jules or Paul van Dyk) and "Mercury Rising". Their album "Peace" was released by EMI Music Switzerland.

Torsten has had his most notable success outside of York working with DJ Sakin, The Sunseekers and DJ Taucher. Today he's still releasing dance records under his York guise (on Offshore Music) but mainly produces tracks and sounds for the like of Jennifer Paige, All Saints or Dido (2007). He runs two record labels, "Liquid Records" and "Planet Love".
