- UIUC Campus Recreation Center - East (CRCE)
The Campus Recreation Center - East, more commonly known as CRCE (pronounced "SIR-see"), is an athletic facility at the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with services available to students and members through the Division of Campus Recreation. Since the renovations have begun at IMPE, CRCE has seen a surge in popularity.Completed in 2004, the renovated and expanded facility is designed by VOA Associates, a prominent Chicago-based architecture firm. The renovation is part of the "Bigger, Better" campaign by the Division of Campus Recreation in September 2001.
Students have been known to refer to CRCE as WIMPE (Prounounced "Wimpy") because it used to be the Women's Intermural Physical Education building. A common misconception is that the name derived from its relatively smaller size to IMPE.
