airport located three miles (5 km) east of thecentral business district (CBD) of Safford, a city in Graham County,Arizona , USA.Originally the Civilian Pilot Training Airport or Wickersham Airport was convert|3|mi|km south of Safford, where the fairgrounds are today. Safford Regional Airport as we know it was built as a military auxiliary field during
World War II . OnNovember 11 ,1941 , a 20-year lease for the airport site was given to the City of Safford by the U.S. Government. ByMarch 8 ,1946 the airport site was transferred to the City of Safford on a permanent basis.Safford Regional Airport is the only paved airport in Graham County.
