Adyar is a village in Dakshina Kannada district in the state of Karnataka, India.

The Adyar Nayak Family ,which is a spin off of the Ullal Nayak Family, a populous Gowd Sasraswat Brahmin Family, originated from this place in the early 19th century. The Adyar Nayak family was founded by Mr.Nagappa Nayak, as a breakaway sect, from the Ullal Nayak Family. The Adyar Nayak Family has since moved on to Mangalore,Karnataka,India

As of 2001 India census, [GR|India] Adyar had a population of 6501. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Adyar has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 53% of the males and 47% of females literate. 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
