The capitalist nation of Randa has long had a history of excellence in the creation of aircraft, attracting the best of engineers in aerodynamics, artillery, and structuring from the world over. Once, even this interest had waned, until the creation of the air show Bakraid, in which the capabilities of the fighters could be demonstrated outside of simulations for all to see.

Around the time of the seventh Bakraid, a nearby nation, Dameb, had attained an expansionist attitude, forcibly subjugating and annexing several of its neighbors with the assistance of the Shtarterra Security Council. Recently, Dameb has asked to participate in Bakraid. Randa's defense council, perfectly aware that this is just a pretext for Dameb to get its and the SSC's engines of war into Randan borders and more easily prosecute their war from there, give their blessing. However, the council secretly contacts the other Bakraid participants, offering even more prize money than normal if they will perform in a special version of Bakraid--genuine war conditions. In other words, use their own top-of-the-line planes to shatter Dameb's schemes. In all, nine pilots accept this plan, and begin Bakraid two weeks early to catch Dameb unaware...

Gameplay

Battle Bakraid has four play modes:
*Training - Ideal for beginners; there are less enemies and bullets, and the player's ship will automatically use a bomb to escape death (should one be available.) However, the game ends after only four stages.
*Normal - A mode of medium difficulty, which can last up to six stages.
*Advance - All eight levels can be played, at the expense of larger and faster arrays of enemy firepower.
*Special "(Only Boss)" - A mode comprised of the game's twelve bosses fought consecutively. Difficulty is roughly identical to that of Advance mode.

Training, Normal, and Advance mode are available from the start; Special can be unlocked either by inputting a special code at the title screen or clearing the Advance game.

There is a medalling system, where the player picks up medals from downed enemies. These medals gradually increase in value, but if you miss one medal you will break the chain with the player having to start collecting the lowest value medals again. There is also a multiplier system. Whenever the player destroys a large enemy a score multiplier starts. Killing enemies once this has been initiated will get huge scores, however the multiplier will run out if there are no enemies destroyed within a short time. When your medal value and score multiplier starts to increase, so does the rank.

Similar to Armed Police BatRider, Battle Bakraid has a very large selection of secrets to choose from.
