- Carrick Academy
Carrick Academy is a state-run secondary school in
Maybole run by South Ayrshire Council. The school that was later to become Carrick Academy was originally founded in 1845.All schools in Maybole united under the name of Maybole Public School, changed in 1891 to Maybole Ladyland School, and in 1905 to Maybole Carrick Academy.Current houses are: Cumbrae (yellow); Arran (Blue) and Bute (Red). Originally known as "Ladyland School", and was both a primary and secondary at the time: over 100 years ago. The new builing was added in 1974, where the school became what it is now. Current headteacher is Rodger Stewart. The school qualified for the "schools of ambition" award, which includes £100,000 a year over three years to add to its budget. Carrick is capable of holding around 850 pupils, but only has 553 at present, leading to subjects being cut, in particular, the important subject of History. It is well known in the area for its rugby results and academic results. Their participation in the G8 summit at Gleneagles was a success; and enjoyed by all.Carrick Academy Badge:
