census , [GR|India] Thirunagar had a population of 15,549. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Thirunagar has an average literacy rate of 87%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 89%, and female literacy is 85%. In Thirunagar, 8% of the population is under 6 years of age.The Thirunagar Hockey Club is very famous, and has won the state championships. Their practice field is also an important place for students studying in nearby colleges.
There is park named after great politician Anna. One half of it is converted into playground and other half is park.
Famous Vinayagar temple is near the park which has separate idols for
Vishnu ,Murugan andIyappan . All the religions live in with harmony.Public library near park is well furnished with up-to-date books, including books for certified exams. And has the highest strength of users.
Thirunagar is well known for its broad roads with trees on either side. It gives you a pleasant look even at noon.
Vadamalayan group of hospitals had open a branch here near 3rd stop. It offers world class health check-ups.
There are eight bus stops in the town; the eighth stop is the Bus Terminus. Thirunagar has twelve internet cafes with high-speed broadband connectivity.
Mid of 1996 one more sports club "Acme sports club" formed in Thirunagar. Concentrating mainly on Football and achieved Winner - MDFA Senior Division league 2002. Winner - MDFA Senior Division league 2005. Apart from this Acme sports club won so many other tournaments. For the convenience of our players we moved our practicing place to Thiruvalluvar Nagar ground in Thanakkankulam village panchayat.
