The History:Situated on the banks of the Ganges( Ram Ganga),Modern Sahaswan was founded by a general from Afghanistan, Shokhulla. He was a warrior who challenged the might of the Mughals and fought with an army of 112 soldiers. During this time a pathan landlord , Shabaz Khan, was sent to overpower him at a location on the outskirts of the now proclaimed boundary of Sahaswan. There was a challenge for a wrestling match to prove strengths. Anyone of the two who won, would finally proclaim the land of Sahaswan as his. This fight of might was overseen by Pandit Ram Pramod, the Mugal emperors mediator.

In the ensuring fight Shokulla won and then declared the lines of controls for himself within the land which is now called as Sahaswan. He proclaimed the land outside of it for Shabaz Khan, who gave him a good fight. The outskirts are hence called Shabazpur.

Shokulla then designed the town and planned the then little known territory with significant logistics. He himself resided at the centre of the town by building a courtyard called Choudhary Mohalla.

Post demise of Shokulla, his son Azmatulla and then Gulam Nabi controlled the township by promoting agriculture.

Fazal Nabi, the fourth in the lineage was known to be the most respected and well built of the rulers. He was very confident and had his way in convincing people.

Once his favourite cow left the garden grazing in the village streets. He went searching for it and asked some bystanders if they has seen his cow pass from there. Since none had, they said respectfully "No Choudhary Sahab" ( No Our Lordship). He went ahead and asked the second set of people who were standing a bit ahead. The same reply came. This infuriated him and he said " How not, The cow has certainly gonefrom here" He did find his cow later, but from then on he and his lineage were called lovingly " Gaiya Gayi Wali Khandan" He also has the distinction of fighting the war for Sahaswan with the British during the Mutiny of 1857- The war of Indian Liberation. All strategies for the battle were planned in his residence at Choudhary Mohalla.

He was also a great lover of Indian classical music and employed singers. The outcome of this hobby resulted in Sahaswan becoming a hub for musicians. The "Sahaswani Gharana" is one amongst such.

Post his death, his son Sibtey Nabi took control. He was a nobel scholar and a lawyer by profession and died at a young age leaving behind 5 sons and an equal number of daughters. All this was before India winning freedom.

His son Ansar Nabi, born in 1933, served the Indian Army as a Captain until his death in 1996. He left behind a son Isar Nabi, who has settled in the City of Bombay, western India.Isar Nabi has carried forward his great grandfather,Fazal Nabi's hobby and has become one of India's most prolific music collectors. His has the distinction for owning 11,500 Beatles Vinyl Records, which is a record.
