Jim Bond

Jim Bond

Jim L. Bond (born 1936) is a minister and emeritus general superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene.

Heavily recruited by colleges and universities all over the nation, a young man with a definite purpose and sense of direction chose Pasadena College . His plan was to continue his preparation for the ministry and to play basketball. Jim Bond came to Pasadena College in 1954 on the heels of the great success of the Firehouse Five and helped perpetuate the Crusader’s winning basketball tradition throughout the remainder of the ‘50s. Using a soft jump shot and flawless timing on rebounds, “Gentleman Jim” led the Crusaders to the district playoffs for four consecutive years.

Bond capped off a brilliant career by leading PC to the District Championships in 1958 where he earned All-American accolades. PC’s third all-time scorer, Bond’s Crusader records are also featured in rebounds, rebounding average and field goal percentage.

High honors have been a way of life for Bond for many years since he was also a high school All-American and a member of the Texas Athletic Hall of Fame. Drafted by the Lakers, Bond decided to forgo pro basketball to further his training in ministry at a theological seminary. Bond went on to later become president of Point Loma.

The award for Outstanding Achievement by an athlete was presented to Bond by Bob Miller.
