Kazantip ( _uk. Казантип, "Kazantyp"; _ru. Казантип, "Kazantip"; _cr. Qazan Tip) is a headland (or a cape) located in the northeastern part of the Crimean peninsula (in
Ukraine ) on the shore of theAzov Sea . The name Kazantip comes from the Crimean Tatar name "qazan tüp" that means "bottom of acauldron " referring to its concave profile. It extends far into the sea from the coastline with its length being about 3-4 km. Its highest point is 107 meters above the sea level, with the average being 30-40 meters while its lowest inland point is 20-30 meters above the sea level. The headland is the northernmost point of the Crimean peninsula, dividing the Kazantipsky and the Arbatsky Limans.The Kazantip headland is mostly covered with
steppe s. Since 1998 it was designated as a natural preserve of Ukraine. On the eastern half of the mys are located ancient ruins of a settlement dating back to the 3rd-2nd centuries B.C.The Kazantipsky Lighthouse is located on the headland. During 1995-1999, the international electronic music festival, "
Kazantip ", named for the headland, was held nearby.References
