Alexey Alexeyevich Prokurorov ( _ru. Алексей Алексеевич Прокуроров; March 25, 1964 ndash October 10, 2008) was a Soviet/
Russia n cross-country skier who competed in the late 1980s and 1990s for both theSoviet Union andRussia . Prokurorov won a gold medal in the 30 km freestyle and a silver medal in the 4x10 km at the1988 Winter Olympics inCalgary . He also won the 50 km event twice at theHolmenkollen ski festival (1993, 1998).Born in the village of
Mishino ,Vladimir Oblast , Prokurorov's biggest successes were at theFIS Nordic World Ski Championships , where he earned a total of six medals. This included one gold (30 km: 1997), one silver (10 km: 1997), and four bronzes (50 km: 1989, 4x10 km: 1993, 30 km: 1995, 10 km + 15 km combined pursuit: 1997).He received the
Holmenkollen medal in 1998 (shared withFred Børre Lundberg ,Larissa Lazutina , andHarri Kirvesniemi ).
