- Phenomena (song)
"Phenomena" is a song by the
Yeah Yeah Yeahs from their "Show Your Bones " album. The song is built around a dance beat and the refrain:That refrain echoes previous uses, such as
Liquid Liquid 's "Cavern",Melle Mel 's "White Lines (Don't Don't Do It) ",LL Cool J 's "Phenomenon", andDe La Soul 's "Ego Trippin' (Part Two)."The song is played over the end credits of the 2008 horror movie The Ruins.
"Phenomena" Inaccuracy
In the Song, the
Yeah Yeah Yeahs inaccurately employ the titular noun. The word phenomena is the plural ofphenomenon ; the chorus, which is “Something like a phenomena, baby” is grammatically incorrect, as it should read, “Something like a phenomenon, baby”.As the
prosody is “Some-thing-like-a-phe-no-me-na-ba-by”, and the accurate prosody would be “Some-thing-like-a-phe-no-me-non-ba-by”, a lack of knowledge in Greek plurality is suspected.References
