The school is named after Guy Carleton, Quebec's governor during the 18th century.
Current
Carleton has since grown from the small one-room schoolhouse and has added three more buildings into the area over the course of the years: a two-room schoolhouse, a two-story Edwardian-style building, and a bigger red brick building. Carleton now houses 19 classes from
Kindergarten to Grade 7 and educates about 420 students every year . Like many of the schools in the area, Carleton has a very diverse school population. After Grade 7, most students will move on to eitherKillarney Secondary School orWindermere Secondary School , with a vast majority going to Killarney. The school is located a few blocks south of the nearby Joyce-Collingwood SkyTrain Station.
In March 2008, the historic schoolhouse was set ablaze.
