Horace Brearley

Horace Brearley (26 June 1913cricinfo|ref=england/content/player/9963.html] – 14 August 2007 [ [http://www.yorkshireccc.com/news/news618069399 Yorkshire County Cricket Club website] ] ) was an English cricketer and schoolmaster.

Born in Heckmondwike, Yorkshire, Brearley represented Yorkshire as a right-handed batsman in 1937 and Middlesex in 1949. He also played for Yorkshire Men's Hockey team whilst in Sheffield. [ [http://www.oldedwardians.org.uk/nlc/mags/39.March.html KES Magazine, March 1939] ]

After obtaining a B.Sc. from the University of Leeds, he was a teacher at King Edward VII School in Sheffield from 1937 to 1946, [ [http://www.oldedwardians.org.uk/nlc/mags/37.Dec.html KES Magazine, Dec 1937] ] interrupted by wartime service as Instructor Lieutenant in the R.N.V.R. He suffered from Alzheimer's disease in his last years.

His son, Mike Brearley, captained Middlesex and England at cricket.
