municipality in the southeastern part ofAnantapur district inAndhra Pradesh ,India .The name Kadiri is a vernacular name for the Sanskrit word, Khadri, meaning Canary wood or Indian Mulberry (Morinda Citrifolia). Legend has it that the Lord Sri Khadri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy has emerged out of this tree in this place and hence the name.

Kadiri is one of the few towns in Andhra Pradesh with a large Muslim population of 55% of the town.Kadiri is also famous for jasmine flowers(Malle Pulu),Kumkum (Vermilion),and Silk(Pattu Dharam). Kadiri was comparatively rich region in Anantapur district till recently in the agriculture sector. Kadiri variety of groundnut is quite famous for its yield. Main crops in this region are groundnut and sunflower.
Kadiri was a biggest revenue division (taluks) before formation of mandals (taluks were subdivided into mandals as part of admistrative reforms carried out in 1980s). Kadiri was represented in state assembly by famous Vema reddy garu in 1960s and 70s. He also served as speaker for the state assembly.
