He was accepted into Johnny & Associates because Johnny Kitagawa rubbed his then-crew cut hair and said, “A crew cut is good." [HEY! HEY! HEY! MUSIC CHAMP, Fuji Television"; aired March 13, 2006]

Recording career

KAT-TUN

He was part of a junior unit called Musical Academy Dancing before he was drafted as the "U" of KAT-TUN. He became the official leader of the group. [Music Station, tv asahi"; aired August 09, 2002] However, he stepped down shortly afterwards because he couldn't stand being scolded the most by the dance instructor. ["Episode 01" - KAT-TUNx3; aired July 30, 2005]

Ueda is a songwriter that has written and composed songs for KAT-TUN and for himself, including his solo songs "Love in Snow", "Ai no Hana", "Sparking" and "Lost"; as well as his duet collaborated with bandmate Jin Akanishi, "Butterfly".

["Episode 125" - R-ONE KAT-TUN; aired August 19, 2008]

Since 2006, Ueda and bandmate Yuichi Nakamaru has hosted "R-ONE KAT-TUN", a 30-minute program broadcasted on Tuesdays.

Trivia

* He is the only member of KAT-TUN who hasn't starred in a whole drama yet, but he had small roles in NTV's dramas "Kowai Nichiyobi" and "Shijou Saiaku no Deito".

A reenactment of the fight can be seen on the 2002 concert DVD).
* According to various j-web entries and interviews, he is close to Nakamaru outside of work.

* He used to want to be a teacher, but decided against it after realizing that he might be assigned to an all-girls school (he says he would be too nervous).
