Swami Paramananda is an accomplished meditation master who has a following of more than 1200 seekers at the Prashant Ashram Meditation Centre at Dubreuil (Mauritius). He is well known for his great spiritual attainments and his ability to interpret complex spiritual truths in a simple and logical manner using a scientific approach. People of all walks of life and of any religious beliefs are welcome to receive his teachings.

Childhood

Swami Paramananda was born on 8 October 1959 at Souillac, in a family that already had three daughters. His mother probably desired a son when her eldest daughter was born. Later, when one after another two more daughters were born, she became frustrated and started praying Mother Kali for a son. She was then bestowed a son with the birth of Rajendra Prasad known mostly as Raj.

His First Spiritual Experience

After primary schooling, he joined secondary school. In those days, 12 subjects were taught and one of them was 'Bible Knowledge' which interested Raj a lot. He was moved by what happened to Jesus and the love for Jesus Christ took birth in him. He felt the desire to pray Him. One night he had a vision of Jesus on the cross and saw a big crowd of people standing and watching Him. He was suffering a lot and was on the point of leaving his body, when he told me: "I need you. It is you that I need." Although, that vision touched him considerably, Raj did not understand its real meaning at that moment. He continued to pray Jesus Christ and read his small Bible. After this dream, he felt that something had happened deep within him.

His spiritual search

Raj continued his search by reading books on spirituality and mysticism and joining movements like "Mission Salut et Guerison'" and ISKCON. In 1979 he met his friend Willam Tripier who explained to him the importance of having a guru and invited him to meet Swami Veervasantha. This triggered something in Raj who then went to meet him. Swami Veervasantha accepted Raj as his disciple and initiated him to meditation. Raj regularly attended satsangs given by his Guru. Swami Veervasantha passed away 10 months after Raj met him.

Raj continued to practice other techniques, read books and did much research work. He gained much from Osho, Swami Sivananda, Ramakrishna and other masters. Moreover, he continued to meet at his Guru's ashram where he talked, shared experiences and techniques and put them into practice with other disciples. He also started teaching meditation to aspirants.

Swami Prahladananda, his brother disciple from France, came to Mauritius to confer to him the title of Swami. Rajendra Prasand Dassruth became Swami Paramananda.

His life mission

Swami Paramananda then started his life mission to help humanity at large by guiding them towards inner transformation the only way to establish peace, love, unity and brotherhood in the world. His teachings and guidance aim at the expansion of human consciousness through the science of meditation. His main aim is to sensitize people of ask race, sex, creed and color on the urgent need for mankind to embark on the journey that leads to global mind transformation through the science of meditation. He tries to kindle the latent light of consciousness in man so that he can seek further till ignorance/the root cause of all problems which prevents man to know his true identity and his oneness with all that exists in the universe. That is why he lays emphasis on inner transformation rather than on attending the symptoms alone to eradicate social evils.Besides giving regular meditation courses in Mauritius and in the United Kingdom, Swami Paramananda is also much solicited by various institutions to deliver sensitisation talks on various topics related to the well-being of people and the society. Deeply aware of the need to introduce a holistic approach in the important field of education, he has submitted proposals for educational reform to Ministry of Education and Human Resource of Mauritius, which are under consideration. Currently, he is starting a Self-Education programme in some schools to empower students and teachers alike.

Swami Paramananda also participates in international conferences and submits papers to overseas and international organisations such as UNESCO on specific subjects. In February 2007, he participated in a conference on 'Integrating Spirituality and Organisational Leadership' organized jointly by the University of Delhi and Regent University of the USA where he submitted a paper entitled 'Spirituality and Good Governance' which was published by Macmillan. In March 2007, he also participated in the Education and Development Conference 2007 in Bangkok.

Swami Paramananda is also a prolific writer who has published 17 books during the past 10 years. He also publishes the bi-annual magazine 'Know Thyself' and writes inspiring articles in local papers. His books have been very successful and some of them had to be reprinted more than once. Two of his very successful books 'Man, God and the Universe' and 'Sex:Breaking the Taboo' have been translated into French and published in France by Editions ALTESS for the French-speaking European market.

All the writings and courses of Swami Paramananda aim at triggering a 'Global Mind Transformation' so that mankind lives in brotherhood, unity, love and peace. He considers that all the social and global problems facing mankind can be best tackled with an expanded consciousness of one and all, thus his endeavour to make each individual discover his own self first.
